We stayed the first night at Madpackers Bir, a friendly backpacker hostel with good vibes and mountain views. The next morning, we headed up to Billing, the paragliding take-off point. It's about 2,400 meters above sea level — and yes, it’s as breathtaking as it sounds.

Paragliding was the highlight. The flight was smooth, quiet, and surreal — 20+ minutes of floating above valleys, forests, and colorful rooftops. It felt less like an adrenaline rush and more like meditating in the sky. Absolutely worth it.

After landing, the rest of the trip was about slowing down. We went café hopping, enjoying Bir’s relaxed vibe:

• Garden Café – had their sandwich and Garden Special Pancake in a sunny courtyard.

• Vairagi Café – comfort food like aloo paratha, Maggi, and omelette.

• Bhoomi Café – perfect for fresh pastries and a quiet break.

We also visited Chokling Monastery, quiet and grounding after all that sky.

The second night, we switched to an Airbnb overlooking the paragliding landing site. Watching gliders float down from the balcony while having poha and sandwiches cooked by our host felt like something out of a dream. There’s a reason Bhutan is called the happiest country in the world and after spending a week there, I finally understood why. Recently, I packed my bags, left behind my routine, and joined a group trip to Bhutan with Tripkarado. I didn’t know anyone in the group before the journey began, but by the end of those 7 magical days, six strangers had become six friends.

A Country That Feels Like a Deep Breath

Bhutan is calm. Like really calm. There are no traffic lights, no honking, and no chaos. People greet you with warmth and respect. Everyone seems content and that energy rubs off on you. It didn’t take long for me to feel at peace, even in silence.

Day by Day: A Glimpse Into My Trip

Day 1: Into the Land of Thunder Dragons

We started from Bagdogra and crossed into Bhutan via Phuentsholing. After immigration formalities, we settled in with a welcome dinner—complete with Bhutanese wine and cake. The Indo-Bhutan gate lit up at night made for a beautiful start.

Day 2: Journey to Thimphu – Bhutan’s Calm Capital

After breakfast, we drove toward Thimphu. The route was filled with breathtaking mountain views, serene forests, and waterfall stops. On the way, we visited Gedu Stupa and paused at Chuzom, the confluence of Paro and Thimphu rivers. In the evening, we strolled around Clock Tower Square, soaking in the city’s charm. Thimphu was lively, yet peaceful.

Day 3: A Day in Punakha – The Palace of Great Happiness

This day was one of the most scenic! We drove through Dochula Pass with its iconic 108 chortens and stopped at Chimi Lhakhang, the Fertility Temple. Then came the highlight Punakha Dzong, Bhutan’s most picturesque fortress. Its setting between two rivers was just surreal. Before heading back to Thimphu, we crossed the famous Suspension Bridge.

Day 4: Local Life & Stories in Thimphu

We started the day at Simply Bhutan, where we got a fun introduction to local traditions, archery, and Bhutanese attire. Then came the grand Buddha Dordenma, followed by a peaceful visit to the Durga Mata Temple. Next, we visited the Takin Preservation Centre and saw Bhutan’s unique national animal. At the Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory, we watched traditional papermaking in action. In the afternoon, we reached Paro and explored the beautiful Rinpung Dzong, a fortress that looked straight out of a painting.

Day 5: Tiger’s Nest – The Highlight of My Trip 🏔️

This was the day. The hike to Taktsang Monastery, better known as Tiger’s Nest, was demanding but oh so rewarding. Every step through pine forests and prayer flags led us closer to something spiritual. When we reached the monastery perched high on the cliffs, it felt like time stood still.

We all sat in silence at the top—no phones, no chatter, just soaking in the moment. Later, we returned to Paro and spent the evening relaxing and exploring the local market.

Day 6–7: Saying Goodbye with a Grateful Heart

We returned to Phuentsholing via the scenic Paro Airport viewpoint and Tamchog Iron Bridge, reflecting on the journey. On Day 7, as we drove back to Bagdogra, the silence in the car said it all—none of us wanted it to end.

What Made This Trip Special? The People 💛

Despite being complete strangers at the start, our small group of six quickly became a close-knit bunch. I didn’t talk much, but everyone was warm, fun, and easy to be around. We shared meals, travel stories, and quiet moments during long drives and scenic stops. By the end of the trip, it truly felt like I had made some good friends.

• Hong Kong offers visa-free travel for Indian passport holders, but you must apply for PAR before booking your flight.

• The process is instant — you'll know immediately if it’s accepted or rejected.

• Make sure to fill it exactly as per your passport — common errors like entering the wrong passport issuing place can lead to denial at immigration.

• PAR is valid for 6 months and allows you multiple entry for stay of up to 14 days.

🚫 Important: PAR applications from Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Chandigarh often get auto-rejected. If your PAR is rejected, you will need to apply for a regular visa to enter Hong Kong.

• I bought SoSim eSIM one day before going to HK– worked perfectly across Hong Kong.

• For Macau, I had to recharge it again with Travel Data DIY plan.

• You can exchange Indian rupees for HKD at Chungking Mansions in Tsim Sha Tsui. There are plenty of exchange shops with very competitive rates.

🛂 Immigration in Hong Kong: What to Expect

Immigration wasn’t smooth — I was questioned for 20 minutes. Here's what they asked:

They do not stamp your passport. Instead, they give you a arrival slip — don’t lose it.

The Journey to Mulki

My journey began with a flight from Nagpur to Bengaluru. From there, I took the Karwar Express (16515) at 7 a.m. from Yesvantpur to Mangaluru, booking a seat in the Vistadome coach to enjoy the stunning scenic views along the way.

After arriving in Mangaluru, I traveled to Mulki and checked in at Mantra Surf Club. The moment I arrived, I was greeted by a beautiful sunset, peaceful vibes, and people either kayaking or relaxing in hammocks. The atmosphere was perfect for unwinding and connecting with nature.

Settling in at Mantra Surf Club

The next morning, I woke up at 7 a.m. and enjoyed a simple breakfast of fruits, tea, and coffee before heading out for kayaking. We paddled to a nearby island, which was a great way to start the day.

Brunch was served at 11 a.m., and the food was delicious. Afterward, I spent some time relaxing in a hammock under the trees, which quickly became my go-to spot for chilling during my stay.

My First Surfing Experience

The real excitement began in the evening with my first surfing session. At 3 p.m., they handed us our surfboards, and we took a boat to a nearby island where the waves were ideal for beginners. Carrying the surfboard wasn’t easy, especially as we headed toward the waves. The water kept pushing me back, making it harder to reach the instructor.

Once I finally made it, the instructor guided me to lie on the board and get ready to paddle. When the wave approached, I had to pop up and balance on the board. Sounds simple, right? Well, the first couple of times, I fell into the water and thought I’d never manage it. But on my 3rd or 4th attempt, I stayed calm, found my balance, and finally caught a full wave! The feeling of riding that wave was pure happiness—a mix of accomplishment and thrill.

Exploring Udupi with New Friends

After the surfing session, I relaxed again in the hammock and connected with some fellow travelers. The next day, we decided to explore Udupi together. After brunch, we rented bikes for 600 rupees per day and headed to Sea Walk Park Malpe, where we caught a ferry to St. Mary’s Islands. The island was a unique experience, and we spent about an hour there.

Our day ended with a visit to Padukere Beach, where we witnessed an unforgettable sunset. Later, we went to Machali Restaurant to eat seafood. It was my first time trying seafood. We ordered prawns and kingfish with neer dosa, and I have to say, the prawns were my favorite!

Day Two Surfing & More Adventures

The next morning was my second surfing session. This time, I had to ride the wave independently. However, the water level was higher, making it tough to reach the surf point. With some help from the instructors, I managed to ride a few waves, which felt amazing.

That evening, I did another round of kayaking while watching the sunset—one of the many perks of staying at Mantra Surf Club, where kayaking is included for free with your stay.

More Udupi Exploration

The next day, we continued our exploration of Udupi. We visited Padubidri Beach, one of the cleanest beaches in India, followed by a visit to the Kapu Lighthouse. We also visited Shree Venkataramana Temple and Bappanadu Sri Durga Parameshwari Temple before returning to Mulki, finishing the day with some dosa at Hotel Bappanadu.

Wrapping Up in Mangaluru

On my final day, I headed to Mangaluru. After a dosa-filled breakfast at Udupi Cafe, we visited Kadri Shree Manjunatha Temple and topped off the day with the famous Gadbad Ice Cream at Pabba’s, a must-try dessert if you're ever in Mangaluru!

Final Thoughts

My time at Mantra Surf Club was unforgettable. From learning to surf, to kayaking and making new friends, the experience was both exciting and deeply relaxing. The laid-back atmosphere, great food, and friendly vibe made it a place I’d highly recommend, whether you're a seasoned traveler or just looking to try something new. Surfing might have been the main goal, but the memories I made along the way made this trip so much more.

Day 1: The Journey from Rishikesh to Karchi

Our journey began at 6 am from Rishikesh, and we reached Karchi at around 6:30 pm. The drive was eventful, with our driver making a stop to show us the confluence at Devprayag, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet to form the Ganges. The roads were occasionally blocked, causing brief delays, but the scenic beauty of Karchi basecamp made it all worthwhile. Surrounded by mountains, the basecamp was a tranquil start to our adventure.

Day 2: The Challenging Trek from Poolna to Ghangaria

The second day began with a short drive to Poolna, where the real trek began. The 9 km trek from Poolna to Ghangaria was more difficult than I had anticipated, primarily because we had to carry our bags and it was slightly raining. The trail, while beautiful, was demanding, and the weather added to the challenge. However, the camaraderie among fellow trekkers and the stunning views kept us going.

Day 3: The Mesmerizing Valley of Flowers

The third day was all about exploring the Valley of Flowers, the highlight of our trek. The 3.7 km trail each way was lined with vibrant flowers, even though the weather was foggy with slight rains on and off. Despite the challenging conditions, the beauty of the valley was mesmerizing, making every step worthwhile. The valley, with its diverse flora, felt like a reward for all the effort we had put in to reach this point.

Day 4: The Serene Trek to Hemkund Sahib

This day was all about climbing to the highest point of the trek—Hemkund Sahib, at an altitude of 14,107 ft. The path to Hemkund Sahib consists of a series of switchbacks that continuously climb higher. We were lucky with clear weather on our way up, which made the ascent more enjoyable. I reached Hemkund Sahib around 10:30 am, participated in the Paath, had a simple yet delicious meal at the Langar, and visited the nearby Lakshman Temple. Along the way, we were also greeted by the rare Himalayan blue poppy and Brahma Kamal flowers, adding to the trek's beauty.

Day 5: Descent to Poolna and Visit to Badrinath

On the fifth day, we descended swiftly from Ghangaria to Poolna, covering 9 km in just 4 hours. After reaching Poolna, our group decided to visit Badrinath, one of the Char Dhams. Manoj Sir shared fascinating stories about the Nara and Narayana mountains near Badrinath, adding a layer of historical and spiritual significance to our visit. The journey through the various Prayags along the way deepened our connection to the region’s rich cultural heritage.

Day 6: The Return to Rishikesh

The final day of our trek involved a long drive back to Rishikesh. The descent back into the plains allowed us to reflect on the incredible experiences of the past week. As we neared Rishikesh, I felt a mix of emotions – fulfillment, gratitude, and a touch of sadness that the trek had come to an end.

After reaching Rishikesh, me and my friends decided to visit Triveni Ghat to witness the Ganga Aarti, which was a serene and spiritual experience. Later, we explored Ram Jhula, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of Rishikesh one last time before concluding our adventure.

Learnings from the Trek

The Valley of Flowers trek taught me many valuable lessons:

• Willpower over Fitness: While physical fitness is important, willpower is crucial when trekking at high altitudes. Even the most physically fit can struggle without the right mindset.

• Minimalism: Carrying only what’s necessary and learning to live with less is liberating.

• Teamwork: Trekking is a group effort. Everyone’s safety and success depend on the team working together.

• Appreciation for Simple Pleasures: After a long day of trekking, even the simplest food tastes divine.

• Respect for Nature and Time: The mountains demand respect. Disregarding time or safety can lead to dire consequences.

• Safety First: Never take unnecessary risks, like selfies at dangerous spots or relying on mules at high altitudes, as the mountains can be unforgiving.

• Awareness: It’s important to be aware of your surroundings and not be distracted, especially in unpredictable mountain weather.

• The Importance of Gear: Good trekking gear, especially shoes with ankle support and trekking poles, can prevent injuries and make the trek more comfortable.

The Monsoon Magic

I travelled to Udaipur in July during the monsoon season. The weather was mostly cloudy, which added a mystical charm to the city. Though I missed out on sunsets, the rain stayed away, allowing me to enjoy my explorations to the fullest. During my travels, I also noticed many foreign traveler’s, adding to the vibrant and diverse atmosphere of the city. I stayed for three days, which I found to be the perfect amount of time to explore and enjoy Udaipur.

Day 1: Exploring the Heart of Udaipur

I stayed near Lake Pichola, which offered stunning views and was within walking distance of many attractions.

• Jagdish Temple: I began my day seeking blessings at this magnificent temple.

• City Palace: This majestic palace is a must-visit. I hired a guide to fully appreciate its rich history and architecture.

Afternoon:

• Jagmandir Island Palace: A peaceful boat ride took me to this serene spot where I enjoyed a cold coffee.

• Doodh Talai: A beautiful spot with breathtaking views.

• Karni Mata Temple: Reached via a scenic ropeway, offering a panoramic view of Udaipur.

Evening:

• Bagore Ki Haveli: The highlight of my day was the Dharohar cultural show here, starting at 7 pm.

• Gangaur Ghat: A peaceful evening stroll at this serene ghat.

• Ambrai Ghat: Another picturesque spot, especially stunning at night with the lit-up City Palace and lake.

Day 2: A Day on Wheels

I rented an Activa to explore more of Udaipur. The freedom of having my own transport made the day incredibly enjoyable.

Morning:

• Saheliyon Ki Bari: A tranquil garden, perfect for a peaceful start to the day.

• Fateh Sagar Lake: Enjoyed a relaxing boat ride.

Afternoon:

• Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace: Unfortunately, it was closed, but the view from outside was still worth the visit.

• Badi Talab: A serene and less crowded spot.

• Bahuballi Hills: A refreshing small trek with stunning views.

  

• Shilpgram: Explored rural arts and crafts and enjoyed cultural shows.

Evening:

• Neemach Mata Mandir: Climbed the mountain to reach this temple, an exhausting but rewarding experience.

• Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal: Ended the day with a delightful puppet and folk dance show, which started at 6 pm.

Day 3: Exploring Beyond Udaipur

On my third day, I hired a cab to visit places a bit further from the city.

• Shri Haldi Ghati Palace: Learned about the historic battle of Haldi Ghati.

• Kumbhalgarh Fort: The sheer size and grandeur of this fort were awe-inspiring.

  

• Nathdwara: Visited the famous Nathdwara temple.
